BAGS - the body as counterpart
BAGS are ongoing dis/appearances of min 8 hours and max 24 hours.
A performer commits him-/herself within a given public setting (festival
lounge, shopping mall, public space, etc.) to dress in sack cloth, go
in sleeping position/s and, for as long as the body can afford, move as
little as possible.
The problems of staying hydrated and warm, staying on the edge of the radar on the one hand, and becoming a projection screen for the thoughts and opinions of bystanders on the other, are integral to the physical and mental work involved.
Mute, faceless, motionless. Covered in
sack cloth and a telephone number embroidered on a sock makes the body
seem reachable and identifiable -- is it?
