LA CARTE DU NORD ... is part of Postcards From The Future - 8 performances of a capital city, a photographic performance project for Brussels by (Christophe Meierhans, Christoph Ragg and Heike Langsdorf). The Postcard From The North (St. Josse, Schaerbeek, Noordwijk) is an homage by many different people to Gare du Nord, a hyper-mobile space and public place in Brussels.
Gare du Nord offers lots of undefined areas inspire of being used exhaustively by many different populations it offers lots of undefined areas.Considered a space Gare du Nord comes over 'large, 'wide' and 'empty'.
Considered a public place, North station can be claimed by travelers (la gare), merchants (shops), company employees (offices), social-workers, youngsters (skating, breakdancing, etc), sans-papiers / immigrants without residence authorization (waiting), multiple dependencies (clients/dealers) and people living on the streets out of divers reasons (shelter).
The card is being developed based on the impressions of first encounters : only today, working collectively on possible sceneries, the image for the card starts to be more concrete. We are working on its elaboration under different working-titles : Sturm auf die Bastille, Guantanamo, L'entrance du Christ à Bruxelles, Armani-Models, Nostradamus' Revolution … These titles are supporting the many ideas, complementing to a 'collective' image-proposal and were emerging while choosing the area as well as the actions which will be depict on the postcard : various styled people starring in various scenes, taking place in the main hall of the station.
… LA CARTE DU NORD is part of Bureau Annex, an instrument of radical_hope : open to be adapted / changed / modified according to the situation.
… LA CARTE DU NORD is in the same time a performance-proposal by radical_hope for Postcards From The Future by C&H.
Researching the principle of changeability, radical_hope invents instruments for Social Change in times without lead. The question is how a context can be touched from an artistic point of view without deminishing its natural complexity.
